What will happen if I sync?

So I have a few questions: I am only speculating here on what the "sync" option does, but I suspect that it allows me to do certain things given the following assumptions: (1) I am assuming that Mendeley allows me to access my desktop digital library through the internet. Is this possible? How? Through my account? (2) If this is the case, then I am also assuming that the "sync" option allows me to essentially copy my desktop digital library onto my online Mendeley account (my internet digital library), thus enabling me to access my library whenever and wherever I have internet connection. (3) This is my most serious question: Over the course of months, I had made hundreds if not thousands of individual edits to the labels of my many PDF documents so that they are filed and titled properly, and so that they can be most efficiently located through the search engine. Now, if I sync my desktop to the internet, will that possibly and permanently undo all of the desktop edits I had made? Hopefully none of my desktop edits will be effected by the sync. One more question: will my desktop edits transfer over into the internet account, or do I have to engage in another several non-stop weeks of editing my internet library too? Thank you!
