The "Invalid characters found" provided by http://support.mendeley.com/customer/portal/questions/new when posting a question is not a good error message. To make it useful, it must identify the LOCATION of the Invalid characters so someone posting a question can remove them.
Moreover, the heading in the .bib files that Mendeley Desktop 1.15.2 creates contains "invalid characters", so that prevents me from posting a full example .bib file for you to review.
